| Pat Schuster Mock #1 - 4/13/07 Discuss this Mock Draft Here is a full mock seven round draft. Check back before the draft for updates and commentary for each pick. As always I'd love to get feedback and feel free to email me at Patrick@footballdialogue.com Round One 1. Oakland: JaMarcus Russell QB LSU. While Al will get some offers and consider some free agents how can he pass on the second coming of Doug Williams. It's Russell when it's all said and done. 2. Detroit: Joe Thomas OT Wisconsin. Here come the Lions and that means you never know who is getting drafted. If they keep the pick the pick it looks like it is Thomas all the way but the smart thing to do would be make a trade with Arizona for the 5th pick add an additional pick or two and take Gaines Adams out of Clemson. Again it's the Lions so rarely is the smart thing what's done. 3. Cleveland: Brady Quinn QB Notre Dame. It's a true toss up in the Browns War Room between Quinn and Peterson but with Romeo's good buddy Charlie Weis putting in some good words its Quinn by a hair. Plus the Browns get the Ohio native to lead them and he becomes the most popular QB since Bernie Kosar. Peterson makes more sense with the renting of Jamal Lewis for a year but this also is a way that Browns mgt. can show support to Crennel and Savage. 4. Tampa Bay: Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech. Clearly the best prospect in the draft. Has the lowest risk and biggest reward for any team and will give the Bucs a much needed weapon. Garcia will go nuts to have a talented big target that doesn't suffer from diarrhea of the mouth. 5. Arizona: Gaines Adams DE Clemson. If they can't work a trade up for Joe Thomas or down slightly for Levi Brown then Adams is a nice fall back choice. The Cardinals have in place some awesome offensive weapons and now need to build an equally bright defense and bring Adams into the fold is a great start. He's a cross between Jason Taylor and Leonard Little and with the right coaching may even raise his game to Dwight Freeney caliber down the road. 6. Washington: Alan Branch DT Michigan. Redskins desperately need to upgrade the defense on all fronts and adding Fletcher and Smoot helped but it's the boys on the line that need the most attention. Branch is a mountain of a man similar to the likes of Ted Washington, John Henderson, or Shaun Rogers and will become an instant starter for the Redskins. Will be a great player for Gregg Williams to mentor and add moves to his repertoire to really make Branch an unstoppable force. 7. Minnesota: Jamaal Anderson DE Arkansas. While everyone has them taking a wide receiver at number 7 the feeling I get is with such a deep group this year at WR, they can focus elsewhere in round one and get a quality wideout next round. Anderson is that quick pass rusher this team desperately needs and should make an immediate impact on the defense. With some quality NFL coaching the Vikings may finally have that disruptive force they have been looking for along time. 8. Atlanta (from Houston): Amobi Okoye DT Louisville. Obviously the Falcons have higher priorities then defensive tackle Coach Petrino knows what a special player he is getting in Okoye. Amobi is only 19 years old so he actually had room to grow but even now he is a physical specimen who should benefit greatly by playing for his former college coach in the pros. Okoye will be the best defensive tackle in the league in five years. 9. Miami: Levi Brown OT Penn State. The Dolphins are in a desperate need for a quality offensive tackle and while this may a little higher than projected Brown is the type of player with size, quickness and pedigree to become an instant starter. If Brown puts his mind to it he can become as good as any offensive linemen in this draft. Brown's biggest flaw is his dedication something that Cam Cameron can certainly make sure is kept in focus. 10. Houston (from Atlanta): Adrian Peterson RB Oklahoma. With the new regime in town the Falcons get the rare chance to take a running back that might just erase the blunder of passing on Reggie Bush. Peterson has had the injury bug and may run a little too high for his own good but make no mistake this guy is a battling ram that won't back down from anyone. Getting to add Peterson is a PR dream being that he's a Texas boy and also serves to eliminate all the comments about missing on Bush. Rookie of the year should come down between Adrian and Calvin Johnson. 11. San Francisco: Dwayne Bowe WR LSU 12. Buffalo: Patrick Willis ILB Mississippi 13. St. Louis: Adam Carriker DE Nebraska 14.
